Dear Pastor Lee, Mrs. Kwon, and Members of the Sanwoon Church, Grace and Peace to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! On behalf of your sister church in Windsor, Connecticut, I want to thank you for hosting Lauren, Cassie, and Kelsey as part of Sacred Journey. I am sure they are having a wonderful time learning about Korean culture and making new friends. Sacred Journey is one of the most important parts of our partnership because it exposes younger members to the wider mission of the church. Everyone from First Church who has participated in Sacred Journey has said it was a special experience that broadened their horizons and increased their faith. We have had a busy summer in Windsor. The first week in July we held our annual “Vacation Bible School.” Two weeks ago, 22 youth group members spent a week in New Jersey helping people recover from Hurricane Sandy. They worked hard helping people repair their damaged houses, but they also found time to visit the beach at the end of each work day. They stayed in a local church, cooked their own meals, and began and ended each day with a time of worship. The church is busy preparing for my retirement at the end of September. A search committee has been formed to find a new minister, but since the process can be a lengthy one an “interim” minister will lead the church for several months until a new Senior Minister is called. The relationship between our two churches has been a very special part of my ministry and I am sure it will continue to be a strong partnership after I leave. Thank you again for taking such good care of Cassie, Kelsey, and Lauren, and best wishes for a blessed summer filled with plenty of time for relaxation, rest, and spiritual renewal.
